I wouldn't recommend steaming your face at all. Heat makes your skin (thus your pimples) swell. It may bring them to the surface faster, but other than that, I don't see how it does any bit of good. Some people like to do this because pimples that come out faster also heal faster, but I personally don't enjoy that feeling.

I used to wash my face with warm water and steam once a week and my skin was always so red and puffy looking and my pimples were appeared inflammed, even though I have non-inflammatory acne!

Too much heat will also over dry your skin and thus, it will produce more oil.

About a week ago I starting icing my face twice a day for about a minute - once in the morning and once at night. I'm very careful not to over do it, as cold can burst cappilaries. I've also cooled my showers down and always splash with very cold water when I wash my face. After doing this, your face is VERY red, but after about a minute, it goes away completely and your left with refreshed, smooth and hydrated skin. Honestly, just this one thing has made a world of difference. My pores appear very tight and my skin has a rosy glow without being red or swollen. My pimples are less red and I haven't gotten any new ones to speak of since then, as the icing seems to be keeping them down.

I'm not suggesting everyone to ice their faces but I think if you started using cool, or at the very least, lukewarm water to shower and wash your face, you would be pleasantly surprised.

Take this with a grain of's only my personal preference and I know many people here find steaming their faces to be very beneficial. I would try both if you're not sure and see what works best for you.
