I am starting to use 0.05% retin-a cream (up from 0.01% gel which didn't do too much), and have a few questions for those of you who have used it.. answers to some or all are greatly appreciated..

- what type of acne on your face did(do) you have, and did it improve?
- do you think that your acne was(is) hormonal or not?
- is your skin normally dry or oily?
- did you apply moisturizer, day or night? if so what kind
- what strength did you use & did you increase over time?
- is your skin generally sensitive?
- did you apply it all over your face or just in some areas?
- were you consistent with your application every night? (most of the time a medication fails me it's because I don't take it properly or stick with it!!)
- if it didn't work for you, do you think you know why not, or what does work for you?
- did you apply it anywhere other than your face (neck, chest)?
- anything else i should know?

I'd appreciate any shared experiences, tips, or cautions that anyone has (even if it's just to tell me to stop asking so many questions.. haha)!
Thanks in advance!
- what type of acne on your face did(do) you have, and did it improve?

Mild/moderate acne(5-6 pimples), not cystic. Yes i have seen improvement

- do you think that your acne was(is) hormonal or not?

Never thought about it
- is your skin normally dry or oily?

Shiny like a muthaf*cka.... umm yes, oily.

- did you apply moisturizer, day or night? if so what kind

Yes i moisturized (in the morning, once a day - Marcelle Oil free Multi-defense lotion Spf 15.

- what strength did you use & did you increase over time?

I started at 0.05% ( i may move up to 0.1% to see if i can finish off the job)

- is your skin generally sensitive?

Yes, i have VERRY sensitive skin

- did you apply it all over your face or just in some areas?

All over my face, not just acne infected areas.

- were you consistent with your application every night? (most of the time a medication fails me it's because I don't take it properly or stick with it!!)

Yes, i heard this is very important (at least in the beginning, or first 3 months) In all the time i've been using it, I only missed once.

- if it didn't work for you, do you think you know why not, or what does work for you?

I have very few complaints. You're face will look/feel sunburnt for 4 or 5 days, and peel slightly for the first two weeks. It's o.k, because alot of ppl are sunburnt around this time. The moisturizer will help with the peeling.

- did you apply it anywhere other than your face (neck, chest)?

nahh, why?

- anything else i should know?
Wash your face before application, then WAIT 20-30 mins BEFORE you apply the retin-a. Your face should be 100% dry.
I've heard it doesn't work for everybody, which is very possible, AND you prob will get worse during weeks 3 and 4... at least i did. But give it a shot, try for atleast 3 months, if you see no improvement.... try something new.
