what pill did u go on? i am thinking that because i tried ortho tri it did not work- maybe i need to try diane or yasmin??
btw 21withacne.. the pill works different for every 1 (which im sure u know lol).. if the first one u try doesnt work within a few months u can just try another, it might take a few pills to find one thats right for you.. since OTC didnt work for you, u should try yasmin.. its working for my mom and it worked for my friend.. good luck
I am also hourglass shaped and had mild hormonal acne. Diane 35 has worked very effectively for me. It is sold in the UK and Canada (by prescription) but not the states. It has yet to be approved in the States. Yasmin is sold there though and is very similar although the anti-androgenetic properties are different.
21 I would definitely recommend you see a endrocrinologist for hormone level testing. If you are suffering from a hormone inbalance then accutane will not work as effectively, although it will still serve to lessen oil production. Hirstuism is a definite sign of too much testosterone production. Sometimes it is mild and many women have this, but other times it can be caused by ovarian cysts etc. Natural hormone balancers such as Vitex (sold in healthfood stores and online I believe) also can help to regulate hormone levels, and Saw Palmetto (also in healthfood stores) also has anti-androgenetic properties.
K lets try this again.

Vitex and S.P. are both natural hormone balancers and S.P. is also antiandrogenetic. They both work well, but take longer to work than a stronger prescription drug. In the long run I believe the effects to be longer lasting, as they work with the body like all naturapathic remedies. Diane 35 works very effectively. I did not try accutane before it, as my acne was mild. I rarely ever get a zit now after 9 months on the pill, whereas before I always had at least 3 around my period, so yes my skin has definitely improved. I have had no real weight gain apart from the increase in bust size which was not dramatic (thank God! I have too much already IMO) Yasmin is also known to work very well, and contains a small dosage of spiro. It is also similar to a diuretic in that it reduces water retention, therefore many women do not gain weight on this pill (the increase in bust size while on the pill is due to water retention in the breast tissue). Yasmin has not been around for as long as diane35, so its side effects are not as well known. DIane35 however is not approved for use in the States. It is widely used in Europe and Canada. Spiro is usually prescribed in higher dosages than found in Yasmin, and also works well. I wouldn't take spiro alongside a BCP until you have given that BCP a chance to work itself, because women have found Diane35 and Yasmin very effective. Both are antiandrogenetic and that is why they are so effective for hormonal acne. Personally, if I were not on Diane, I would be taking Yasmin. I chose Diane because it was the BCP of choice among my friends, I need birth control and the added benefit that it helped with the complexion is why I chose this pill . All BCPs carry some risks, so the choice of whether to take an alternative medicine such as vitex or a drug is really up to you and your doctor. Hope this helps you a bit!

yes VItex works well but takes longer than 10 days in most! If you have a history of heart disease in women in your family than it is a much better alternative to BCP for hormonal acne.

Spiro is a diuretic and works to counteract excess output of aldosterone by the adrenal glands. It is not a BCP, and offers no birth control protection. IT is simply found in Yasmin (a BCP) or prescribed alone.

Having taken antibiotics that temporarely cleared up your acne does not mean a BCP would not work well for you.Often such meds help to clear up the symptoms initially but do not solve the problem , and that is why the symptoms come back. BCPs, while you are on them, regulate the hormones so that the acne decreases or disappears. Before I was on DIane35, I took hempseed oil as a supplement and that also helped to lessed the number of pimples I would get around my period. It actually worked very well but did not stop the acne altogether. My acne was mainly due to PMS, and when I started the BCP it cleared up very quickly.
