I have been on spiro for 12 weeks......150 mg flared me bad (initial) but is too dry to stay on at that dose. Never knew if it helped because of the dry skin (extremely!!!) and the subsequent breakouts from that. Am now down to 50 mg per day and dermy wants me to start the yasmin.....I long for a potential cure but am scared to death to try it, especially 1 week before Xmas. I look bad enough right now! I also take 4o mg of accutane every other day to maintain for Lupus. So the dryness on the spiro was awful.
Wondering since I had such a big flare in the last few months from the spiro(?), would I still flare from the yasmin??
I also had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and no longer have my ovaries......Still have awful skin though! Is this because only hormones left are adrenal gland male hormones???? Does this make sense??...
So do I try the Yasmin and potentially be doing better in a short time or do I forget it?? I don't do well with flares.
I was on 100 mg of spiro for 2 months and when I increased it to 150 I flared bad!!!!!!!!! Now I only take 50 a day so the dryness isn't as bad but still breaking out.....especially on cheeks....(right in front of the ears up to the cheek bone)....Maybe none of this is going to work for me.

Heartsicle are you on spiro too??
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks L
I have been on Yasmin for 4 months and the first month was the worst as far as breakouts are concerned. In the first week, I got huge painful cysts...about 6 or 7 of them, like I had never experienced before. I would not leave the house it was horrible. When the cysts went away, I still had to deal with regular acne. Only in my fourth month am I now seeing pretty good results. However, I do have a cyst on my chin. I can't decide whether it is stress related or totally that time of the month, which it is. I only have a couple active pimples now and that is a good thing.

I am not on spiro. I have considered asking my doctor about it, but I want to see what BC alone does for my skin. I get really bad breakouts before/during my periods. I was on Alesse BCP for three months and because it had higher androgenicity, it gave me cystic acne on my jawline. That's another reason why I figured I had hormonal acne, because I react horribly to androgens!

What I recommend is that you go see an endocrinologist. They test your hormones to see if you are lacking in hormones/need hormones, etc. There is a person on here--20withacne--who is also exploring the possibilities of spiro/Yasmin, who is on Accutane but thinks that it isn't working because her break-outs are hormonal. Do a search for her name and you'll probably come up with a lot of stuff.

But definetely see an endo. What my doctor told me is you should try something out for a while (like, 6 months) before you try something else. Most things usually make your acne worse before it makes it better. I'm willing to risk it if it'll make my acne better by the summertime.

But I'll update you on my Yasmin experiences starting this Sunday. Maybe I'll keep a "Yasmin journal" or something, since a lot of ladies on this board seem really interested in it.

Take care! And good luck.

When I was on Ortho-Tricyclen and Diane-35 last year, I had perfect, perfect skin. I remember on Ortho I got an initial break-out as well, but by the third month my skin became almost flawless. I am expecting the same results with Yasmin. I wear make-up so it's not that bad, but who wants an initial break-out? I'm already having an initial break-out from the topical I am using (Tazorac), so maybe that'll clear the path for Yasmin? :>
