... I sympathize with your problem. I had acne until I was 38! When my son started breaking out bad at age 15, we both went to see a dermatologist. I cannot tell you what a difference it made. If oily skin is your problem, ask the dermatologist about accutane, but seriously, for the sake of your health, please consult with a doctor from now on before taking these kinds of medication. ... A Dermatologist can prescribe birth control pills, but s/he may require that you get a pelvic exam prior to getting the prescription (in which case, you'd probably get a prescription from the gynecologist). As others have said, your family practitioner can also perform a pelvic exam if needed. Each doctor handles the situation differently. (3 replies)
