... also persistent. unfortunately the times i see the dr my face is not always at its worse so i dont think he sees how bad it gets. i am on minocycline now, but am well aware that this is just a temporary solution to the problem. ... (15 replies)
... hiya, i dont think i had an inital break out, i'm on day 35 or something now. during the first week i got a few more spots than normal but i put that down to having stopped minocycline. it wasnt anything major at all. i feel quite lucky really as that was something i was really dreading. i've read accounts of an inital breakout happening week 3 or 4 too. ... I just started up again on Mino. I personally take after a bit of food. Otherwise it bothers my stomach. I am on 2 pills a day (100mg each). Will do this for 2 wks, then 1 pill per day. I find that once I go off Mino, the acne comes right back. Will be seeing a new derm soon to hopefully get me on a regimen that will work. Anyone try Accutane? I have read some really... (6 replies)

... Day 1. 20 year old male, mild acne on chest, shoulders, neck, and face. Moderate to severe acne on lower back and mid-back. ~2 month treatment of 100mg 2/day minocycline, differin, zoderm cleanser, and clindagel proved largely unsuccessful. Starting 20mg 1/day on a 65kg patient. Reevaluation on 11/29. (0 replies)
... Hi! I, too, have taken minocycline, 2 courses actually and yes it does work, but only temporary for me. I know a few people that have taken it with good results but after stopping it comes right back. I sure hope this is not the case for you, and hope it all works out! :) (10 replies)
... I am slowly coming off minocycline so it's nice to know that something else might work in it's place. Anyway, guess to be safe I should just ask my Dr. ... (8 replies)
... My face was just as oily before as after. I only wish mino would have helped my oily skin, I had to use accutane for that. ... (3 replies)

... Your acne will not come back worse. I agree it's not a good idea to stay on antibiotics for a LONG LONG time, but a short course to get you through a bad phase will not harm you. It's amazing to me how many people will try to scare you off antibiotics and then steer you towards ACCUTANE, which is 100 times more dangerous and is also NOT a permanant fix in many many cases. ... ... I know what ur saying james. My skin is the same way...oily after an hour or two and still slightly breaking out. I am on minocycline and retin-a but my oilyness has never decreased. I am going to ask my derm if i can go on a low dosage until i outgrow it (iam 21, so it shouldnt be much longer). Why did you get off your 20mg dosage in the first place? (8 replies)
... Actually, Minocyclen is a lot less traumatic on your system than something like Accutane. And from reading these boards it seems to have been effective for many people. I dont think it so much makes it worse (in most cases) but if it comes back it may come back worse. (I think that makes sense). The combination of Mino and Retin-A Micro and Rosula has COMPLETELY cleared... (6 replies)
... Mino did nothing for me either. I wasn't getting the massive cysts like I did before I took it but once I went off, it's like it got worse. So now I'm on accutane and even though there are also numerous side effects, the hope that I may never have to deal with cysts again outweigh pretty much everything else for me right now. ... And also...I'm really not willing to take oral antibiotics. I had a perscription to minocycline for awhile and it made me feel like i was about to throw up every day I took it for like 3 weeks. ... (4 replies)
