I use bouts of movement to control adhd symptoms (see 'adhd and exercise').

I have not had any luck with l-theanine so far.

Tyrosine and phenylalanine are the precursors or building blocks to dopamine and norepinephrine. The latter are chemicals that the stimulants (e.g. ritalin, dexedrine, etc.) force your brain to release. Therefore it is reasonable to suggest that your brain could, at least in the short term, "run out" of them. Taking the supplements may help your brain to make more. In the past I have not noticed any affect from taking these.

I have noticed a clear benefit from taking a protein supplement (whey protein, 70% or more protein by weight) on an empty stomach just before bed time. I sleep better and have less trouble with depression. This helps with adhd indirectly.

I do not know if any of these experiences apply to other people, even less if they apply to children.

Good luck with your search.
