My son is 15 and Strattera alone has been fine for him.He started out with Ritalin which was horrible when he was in grade school. I was told that Ritalin is used now for ADHD and my son is not hyperactive but the ritalin made him hyperactive. Before the 5th grade he was not on meds but was having issues with the other kids thinking he was stupid. The teachers each figured out he was very smart around feb or march each year. The neurologist recomended meds for social reasons so we tried it. Eventually he started taking Adderal that 5th grade year after a few others i did not like and took it all thru middle school. In middle school the kids all thought he was very smart...so the drugs alone made that big difference. He started to think of himself as smart too. Now he is in high school and the neurologist switched him to strattera. It seems exactly the same to me as Adderal was but she says it is non addictive. Anyway, those who have success on stratera might be ADD and not ADHD. These two conditions, altho they have much in common, seem to need different medications.
