The doctor has my son on Adderall XR and Straterra. I don't understand why he would be on both when they are both for the same thing. I realize one contains with a stimulant and one does not. He is also on Trazadone. He was only on the Trazadone and the Straterra for a while and had good results but then started having trouble again. They raised the dose of his Straterra and added the Adderall XR - 10 Mgs. He has been on it for 2 months and his behavior is OUT OF CONTROL. He is like he has absolutely no control over himself at all. Its like a caged wild animal. I dont know what to do to help him. I called the doctor and would only speak to his normal physician. It was his normal doctors partner that put him on this other medication. He said to take him off the trazadone totally and taper off the Adderall every other day for a week and then stop taking it and he has an appointment on the 20th. Has anyone else ever taken both the Adderall XR and the Straterra at the same time and if so, did you have the same reaction?

I just want to say that even though Strattera is not technically a "stimulant" in drug class, it can sure jack up the brain and nervous system. Strattera is a norepinphrine reuptake inhibitor, which if you follow the definition trail, is basically ADRENALINE! I'd say that's pretty much a stimulant if you ask me....

So, we also know Adderall is a "stimulant" by classification. Stimulants are norepinephrine (good ol' ADRENALINE again) and dopamine reuptake inhibitors.

Dopamine is an intermediate to the biosynthesis of ephinephrine, which is, you guessed it........ ADRENALINE!

YIKeSSSS!!!!!!

So, the combo of Adderall and Strattera could be most stimulating to the point of over-agressive/over active behavior, maybe???

I am constantly amazed and shocked by some of this stuff even though I've been researching and following the issue for some time now....

Apparentely, norepinephrine, epinephrine are names for basically the same thing, noradrenaline, or as we know it, adrenaline!

My son takes Strattera and a small dose of Metadate (a long-acting form of Ritalin). He's never had the type of reaction you describe. I hope your son settles down soon - it's bound to be hard on both of you!
