Re: Overdiagnosis
Oct 19, 2005
Amen, flamingos! :D I don't have ADD/ADHD, but I do have OCD, another mental illness that is becoming increasingly overdiagnosed and stereotyped. It makes me sick when people don't believe that I have anything wrong with me, and that I can't do simple things because of the way my brain chemistry works! And what REALLY gets me is when they say: "I can't focus on my reading- I swear I have ADHD!" and "I, like, have to have my books perfectly aligned- I'm sooo obsessive-compulsive!" Yeah, right! You want to trade? You want the disorders? You want to suffer every day with a brain that makes life a living hell? Fine- go ahead, but unless you actually have the disorder, don't stereotype symptoms that degrade those of us who actually HAVE a problem! Hmmm... maybe that's the reason why people don't believe that mental illness is real and still believe Freudian b.s. that it's "all in our heads"!
