Is ADD for life???
Jun 18, 2002
My sister's seven year old son has recently been dignosed with ADD. He is quite a mellow child (not hyperactive which is something she and her partner both associated with ADD/HD) and both parents were quite shocked with the diagnosis but are now very focused on the fact that he may grow out of it in his teens. I am not sure whether this is a healthy attitude. I have also looked on the Internet for the statistics on how many kids recover in adolescence and have come acoss some articles that say 5% and some that say 50%. Is it simply a normal reaction to focus on the fact that an ADD child might recover? Can this type of attitude hamper treatment because the child thinks that he will recover? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
