My son will be 11 years old in august, and was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 6. In second grade the doctor started him on Ritalin 2x per day at 5mg per dose. It usually helped for the most part, however there were some very serious episodes in school of severe disrespect to teachers, fighting with other kids and temper tantrums where he would literally lie on the floor screaming. The doctor i was using responded to this by upping his dose. After doing my own research, i asked the doctor to let him try adderall. The dose he was given was a 20mg 12 hour dosage. I am happy to say that for the first time he had no problems in school, no letters home, and he made the honor roll and student of the month for this past october. Without going on to brag on the other accomplishments my son had, it was just flat out more enjoyable to spend time with him. My point is that the doctor doesn't ALWAYS know better or may not have the time or inclination to treat your child. thanks to you guys on here, as well as countless hours on the internet (don't believe evertything you read) and in my local bookstore my son is getting better care and medication.
