ADHD or ADD shouldn't be looked at as leprosy! It is nothing to be ashamed of and doesn't mean your child is damaged. With that said, I would jump on the old "GO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST" bandwagon. A general practitioner isn't necessarily qualified to make the diagnosis. A pediatrician in conjunction with a qualified therapist or psychiatrist as well as the child's care givers/teachers should all be involved. And while prayer definitely gives strength, I personally feel that God helped the scientists figure out the medicines. It is not an easy decision to medicate your child (believe me I know, my five year old went on metadate seven months ago) but it is your decision and if that is the way you choose to go, than all the power to you. My son's preschool teacher kept trying to tell me that medication wasn't the answer, that my parenting skills were lacking etc. etc. What made her so qualified? She has five kids of her own. (That just proves to me that she wasn't good with birth control) As I said at the beginning of this thread, there is hope. Arm yourself with knowledge and when you make a decision, stick to it. Tell him the truth in terms he can understand and never stop questioning. And it will get better. Good luck.
