Wow! There sure is alot of information out there..from teachers, odcs internet and your peers. My daughter was diagnosed at 5 with ADD. It has been a whirlwind ever since. She is a very intelligent child. We chose to let her grow and change and maybe obtain the maturity to "grow out" of this "condition"
This year we chose to try medications. Concerta was and is what she takes now. My husband and I can not believe the difference in her at school and at home. Unfortunately, the side effect form the stimulant has caused her insomnia and therefore the meds are not helping as well. i had researched pros and cons of meds vs no meds and behavior modification, taked to teachers and docs galore. Help!!!! All the info can make you want to SCREAM!!! I beleive we are doing what is best for our child as is everyone else. I beleive it is a disorder and that some kids are misdiagnosed. Two days ago the doc said he wanted her to try Strattara and I said ok because I thought if it works we should give it a shot. I then talked to her teacher again and she told me of her own experiences as well as within the classrrom of children who were shall we say having a rough time. We have chosen to put off trying the new meds in fear that she will lose so much in these final months of school that are critical. Is it the right thing to do ? Who knows. I pray that is is and that come summer we will try Strattara and find it to be the wonder every one makes it out to be. No really I just hope it helps. That's all any parent can hope for. Any advise or ideas, insites are very much appreciated.
