Re: Concerta
Aug 8, 2003
Cymomtx,

Good luck! My son was on Concerta for 1 1/2 years and rarely went to bed before 11pm. In fact, usually it was closer to 12:30, even during school. In addition, he would not be hungry from the time he took it in the morning until close to 9:00 at night, when it fully wore off. Why did we keep him on it? Because the difference it made in his (and our whole family's)life outweighed the side effects. We did switch to Strattera 3-4 months ago, but he takes Ritalin with it (10 mg twice a day--morning and afternoon when school was in session; one 10 mg morning dose throughout the summer). The Strattera helps his eating, sleeping (he's gone to bed nightly before 10:30 all summer and before 10:00 when school was in session), and anxiety level, and it prevents the Ritalin let down that is so common when the stimulant wears off. The Strattera controls most of his ADHD symptoms, but doesn't do much for his focusing--that's why he also takes the Ritalin.
