Hang in there, I understand what you are going through. I too have an 8 year old who is very argumentative and challenging at home.

You may want to speak with your Dr. about adding ritalin to the concerta. We've started giving our son ritalin (5mg) first thing in the morning and then an hour later give him the concerta (18mg). The ritalin holds him over until the concerta kicks in. It's been great and lasts until about 8:00 p.m.

Do you think there's a chance that he's reacting negatively to too much concerta? We tried 27mg and our son was moody, mean, and said he felt "crazy" That showed us that he was overmedicated.

Regarding homework, have you tried behavior modification? If he cooperates he gets an immediate reward. We have started this with bringing home homework at night and getting up and dressed by himself in the morning. He gets to bring his gameboy in the car on the way to school. This is a big motivator for him.

Good luck
