Addiction & Recovery Board Index

I am a "newbie" to this Board. I have been reading it since June but have not posted until today.

I wanted to share my experience with my Opiate Addiction and Recovery using the Suboxone:

Your posts all remind me of myself any my addiction to Opiates and I have been clean now since June 6th, 2003.

I went the Buprenorphine route and I can tell you that after 2 doses of the Suboxone (which is Buprenorphine and Naloxone) I felt NORMAL...that's the only word I have to describe it! I felt normal for the first time in 7 years.

I am a 34 year old female and I started out with using Vicodins because they "made me feel good and happy and energized", etc...I must have started soon after my son was born.

I'd get some for a (real) ear infection or strep throat sometimes and they were just awesome. Over a seven year time period, I progressed into addiction and was taking Vicodin, Norco, Percocet, Morphine, Fentanyl (Duragesic Patch), Codeine (only in a pinch, upsets my tummy but I didn't care), I stole them from friends, family members and co-workers, bought them from someone I found online, went to four different doctors and four different pharmacies and paid cash to avoid being caught by Insurance, and bought them on-line. Spending $100 for 90 pills.

My habit got up to 17-20 10mg Vikes per day. And all that did was keep me from getting sick - no more highs at all..... I felt desperate to end this cycle.....

I found my answer in Buprenorphine. Like I said, I went to the Dr. on June 6th, 2003 after not having a pill for 48 hours, I felt like CRUD! And 4 hours later, after having 2 doses, I felt "normal". I am very happy with the decision I made and I am positive it saved my life!! I take 10mg per day.

I no longer have severe anxiety about where the next pill is coming from, I have NO mental cravings, thoughts or obsessions, I no longer even think about pills at all.

I wish anyone who tries this the best of luck, please email me if you'd like, I would love to keep in touch with people who are on Suboxone and new to recovery. deb
