Liver damage?
Sep 26, 2003
every night i drink chilled vodka. I am married and a mom. My husband who is a heavy drinker never appears drunk, i get wasted, every morning my eys are in bad shape, blood shot, etc. I had a physical and my lab result were great, i am worried that my liver is not happy. I have had sober periods but it so hard. For my hubby, drinking at night is a ritual for him and our time to catch up on the day, work, kids, etc. I also smoke and sometimes take vicodin and I take ativan to help me sleep. Does any one take trasadone? My doctor gave it to me to take @ night, it is an antidepressant that is suppose to help with sleep, If i don't drink I can not sleep. I want to quit taking the ativan. Help

I just started taking the new med that they gave you too. It does not make me feel sh*ty in the AM. I swithced from Abien.

FYI It is an atidpressant I think. Vodka is a depreesant. My shrink tells me that one will offset the other.

I too HAD a very good life & drank the same way you and your spouse do. It got away from me & I wound up checking into a detox for a few days. If you want to stop drinking you should get some MEDICAL help. Antidpreesants & vodka are a lousy mixer. This is the voice of experience speaking. Steer clear of the vicodin too, as I am now fighting them instead of vodka & I'm sure that my liver is the size of a pea right now. Real nice situation to be in at age 35 w/ 2 chilren. NOT!!

Sounds to me like you are looking for more help than you are stating in the post & I think that's great.

Let me know if I can be of more help, because it looks to me that your on the right path looking for it. That's why most of us visit here.

Good luck,

I'm not an AA person either. I'm really glad that it DOES work for so many, but it's not the right thing for me. I too have chosen to work with a theripist. I would like to be able to drink "socialy" again, but I need to have a siggnificant dry spell behind me before I can even think about if that is possible.

Really happy that you replied to my coment. I think that the sleep thing will begin to correct it's self in a few months IF you can kick the vodka. This is the reason my sleep got screwed up in the first place.
But by all means use them to get rest, just do what you can to stop w/ the vodka. Again, this is the voice of experience.

Like I said before PLEASE stay away from the Vicodin. One of the reasons it was so easy for me to drink was that there was no "penalty" in the AM because I would take a handful of them and I was good to go.

If you have the means & you can swollow your pride think about doing a Medical detox. It only takes a few days, & if you find the right one, it will be a very positive experience in retrospect.

Good luck, & think about it. Your liver will thank you.
