My husband takes at least 20-25 Unisom* (diphenhydramine) liquicaps every night. He doesn't take them all at once. He will take 10 of them, then an hour later take 5, an hour after that 5 more, and so on. Unisom is supposed to make you sleepy, but not him. They seem to give him some type of speed buzz. He's real shaky, talkative, paranoid, and just plain weird on them. Never quits talking. Drives me crazy! He acts like an idiot. I have threatened to leave him if he doesn't quit taking them, but he doesn't care. What in the world would make someone want to take that many sleeping pills? I don't understand. What makes this worse is that he is already on methadone for his addiction to pain killers. He takes 54 mg of methadone daily and has done so for 2 years now. Isn't it dangerous to mix the two?
It is definately dangerous to mix mehtadone with anything that makes you sleepy. Im sure your husband is getting high from the unisom and sleeping pills are terribly addictive. Im not sure i have any advice except that i didn't shape up until my girlfriend left me.
Are you sure that it is unisom that he is taking??? I say this because addicts can be very sneaky and it could be something else he is taking, but has just put it in the unisom bottle......
Otherwise this sounds really abnormal. How did the addiction to unisom start?? Did he start taking them because he couldn't sleep??? It is weird for a sleeping pill and THAT many to make someone "talkative"....
He is lucky he is waking up every morning taking that many sleeping pills. It sounds like it makes him hyper instead of sleepy....
Check the bottle and make sure it is indeed unisom in there, either way your hubby needs help, he is an addict. He has got to want the help though....
Keep me posted, i am curious if those are really unisom in that bottle!
I am glad you found your way here, i am sure you need some support right now. This must be very hard on you.....living with an addict that is actively using isn't easy. Please hang in there!
luv,
LISA
