I was on a methadone clinic for a few years and the WD's were complete hell for me! It was much harder and lasted so much longer than the drug I was put on it for to begin with. I know a few people who have also gone the sub route and have said the same thing about the WD's being worse and lasting longer. I do know for sure that if you are on either of these meds for a long period of time you will have WD and neither are pleasent. The best suggestion I would give you, if you are looking to get off of the pills you are on with as little Physical WD as possible, both of these drugs will work fine if you are only on them during the physical WD part of the cycle. No more than 8 to 10 days. For the most part after that the WD will be over or at least very mimimal and easy to deal with (physical). As far as the mental part, there are lots of longer term options to help you get through this phase, ranging from antidepressents to stuff you can get from your local health food store. I like lexapro or wellbuterin for antidepressents because it gives you energy and helps so much with the fatigue that won't go away for a while as well as helping with depression and mood swings, or if you don't want to go on an anti D, There is 5 HTP that is great for emotional stress and calms forte, and L- tyrosine taken with vitamin B12 is great for fatigue and doesn't make you racey, just increases your stamina and gives you a consistant level of energy without the crash like coffee gives you. Melatonin is great for sleep and doesn't give you a tired hangover feeling (I just posted alot of this to the post above). Also a support system of some kind for your recovery. Meetings, keeping in contact with sober people, posting on these boards, or whatever works best for you. I have been through the long term methadone and have friends who have tried an easier way out through sub or another substitute, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with them, and different people have different needs so whatever helps them to stay clean is great. but if you are looking to try and have as least amount of WD as possible and to quickly get back on your feet, I find these drugs used short term only and then replaced with healthy substitutes, good diet, exercize, plenty of support, therepy, spirituality, positive things and goals is the best way to go for sure!! Although I went through HELL comming off of a long term methadone plan and ended up back on pain pills to get rid of the methadone WD since it was so much worse, I have gone into a detox and used short term methadone once and buperoperone (spelling?) short term once, I had no WD and it was fairly easy. I just wasn't ready to quit then. The last time I did a taper with my doctor and used the stuff I mentioned to you and i did have a slip up, but in years I couldn't hold together a week and am basicly near 3 months (besides the slip) hope this helps, kim
