Hi JMF,

I have been on the same dosage of Norco for back pain for a year. I knew I was addicted when I started taking too many and yes I was up to 10 a day. My scripts were running out before they could be filled. I started taking somas and really liked those. I have an adult son who is addicted to oxycontin and started shooting it. Then when the drug started costing too much money he we went Heroin black tar. One day I looked at my self in the mirror and said I am no better than my son. Addiction is addiction. I went to my doctor and told him I wanted to get off the Norco. He gave me a patch, I forget what they are called but you wear one patch a week for 4 weeks and its suppose to help by keeping your blood pressure, anxiety and your heart rhythm normal when you go through withdraws. He also gave me a non-addicting muscle relaxer. He told me that I would feel real crappy for about 4-5 days. The first day was horrible. My back was in severe pain, cold and hot flashes, going to the bathroom constantly, not being able to eat anything and if I did I would just throw up. Each day I got a little better and after a week I started to turn the corner. I have been off of them for only 2 weeks. I feel so much better although out of the blue a craving will hit me and then I just focus on something else until passes. Now I am seeing a back doctor that actually fixes your back and not masks the symptoms with what could be very addicting drugs. This is the first time in a year I feel hope. It can be done and if you need to go back to the doctor then go, but if you do not want to go that route just remember each day gets easier. Good luck and I will pray for you.
