Re: Tapering Xanax
Sep 23, 2005
I'd tend to agree with the others that tapering and subs really vary between people and a SLOW taper can work wonders. Personally, the rehab wouldn't take me when I was on a rediculous 15-20mg a day (usually 3 X 2 mg am, arvo and PM) When I came to the US no doctor could beleive the amount I had eventually been prescribed and I ended up in an emergency room (when I tried to come off suddeny I seized) They said it was a wonder I was even walking around awake. It was back in Oz that I tapered myself down until I was on about 6mg p day before I went to rehab then they tapered me further and used Valium. I don't know why they didn't use Klonopin as it seems usual. I was on Xanax for about 5 years. It took around 6 weeks to taper down and replace then jump from the valium. But everyone is really different. Have a go of it, use a good doc- it feels great to be back in the land of the living! (And no more crazy running around to refill prescriptions or night terrors when you run out or anxiously counting how many are left- you just become so FREE!!! )
Take care- and good luck!
