I just finished detox from Lortab. It's tough and I found that most doctors don't have very good advice.

I broke my hip and ended up on 4 months of maximum dose Lortab (hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen tablets). When I moved from the hospital to rehab after 4 days I was already dependent on morphine and went into withdrawal. After 9 days in residential rehab, I was sent home with limited supplies of hydromorphone (Dilaudid®) and oxycodone (Percocet®). In just a few days I was in withdrawal again. The only advice I got from my doctors was that the replacement pain meds (Lortab) would help manage the symptoms. Not only was I in severe pain from the shattered bone but I was also sick from withdrawal.

I was not looking forward to having to detox again. I knew it would be difficult to get off the Lortab after months of use. With the help of my personal physician, I created a plan to slowly lower the dose to help manage the symptoms of physical dependence. I shared this plan with a number of people, including my physical therapist who sees lots of people on pain meds, who urged me to share it. So here it is on the web:

This is a 2-step plan to manage your dosing to help minimize the symptoms of withdrawal. I've included blank worksheets so you can tailor your own plan.

I own the site so there is no advertising and I have nothing to gain from this other than the sincere hope that my personal experience can help someone else. Good luck.
