wow, I am so sorry about your brother. Can you hold his pills for him to help him taper..would he agree to that? When I was tapering from ultram, I wished I could ask someone to do that but I live alone.

Question for starfish...I am taking a little xanax (.25 or .05) while getting past my ultram addiction. Today is day 4 of no ultram. I didn't take any xanax yesterday but took .5mg today. I am so scared to get addicted to another drug, but the anxiety from coming off the ultram makes me crazy.
What is the WD from xanax like? Do you get even more anxious?
Anxiety is one of the worst feelings on this planet....ugh.

It's nothing like coming off of Ultram. At the level you're at you should be fine. Xanax is not really a drug that requires one to take it each and every day. It's a drug that can be used for accute anxiety, or on a schedule.

Thus, if you're worried about becoming addicted, or dependent on the drug, take it only when you feel it necessary. For instance you can take it when your anxiety reaches a level of 5 on a scale of 1 - 10.

Unfortunetly, it's not fun coming off of Xanax. But it's like anything else, the withdrawal effects go away very quickly. Especially at the dosage you're taking. It is more of a mental experience, lots of anxiety (which I hate also). I would say anxiety, and restlessness are the main components to Xanax withdrawals. But, if you're only on the drug for a short time you will be fine. It's certainly not the level of anxiety, that accompanies nacotics withdrawals.

You'll be fine, taking .5mg per day (once per day) is not going to lead to anything major, in terms of withdrawals, in my opinion.

You can always cut the pills in half, or quarters, if you're careful and go down 1/4th of a pill, every other day....

let me know if I can elaborate on anything else. I went off Xanax and Xanax XR, in July, so it's been fairly recent.
wow starfish. You've really come a long way...congratulations on getting totally off the drug!

You are right about the anxiety from ultram WD..it is hell. I have been drinking too much in order to quell the anxiety and not take too much xanax. I know...not good, but I don't want to break down and take an ultram to relieve the pain. I don't drink and take the xanax at the same time, btw. I have been trying to alternate a bit.

How long does xanax stay in your system? What is the difference btwn xr and regular xanax?

Today I am not drinking but took .25 xanax this morning and just now another .50mg. I just can't handle this feeling!!!!!

thanks...so scared to add another drug to my life!!
