I'm not going to sugarcoat-this will be very hard. Most likely the hardest thing you will ever have to do. You may want to get someone to help you out a bit with the kids-if possable. I think you also said that your wife/husband has an addcition also. The first week will be the hardest. I WAS 3 weeks clean until today-I had a painful procedure this afternoon and was prescribed vicoden for my pain:mad:
I was feeling pretty bad day 2-4 felt like I had a really bad case of the flu. The withdrawals didn't really hit until 24 hrs after my last pill. Felt very achy-especially in my legs,couldn't sleep at night because of extremly restless legs. I acually ran a low grade fever of about 99.7. Couldn't stop coughing and shivering. You will feel like your freezing no matter how warm the house is. You may get headaches. For me Advil/Motrin did nothing-although it may have been worse had I not taken it.
In addition the depression is the worst and goes on for quite awhile after the physical symptoms are gone. The only way I got through the depression-which I'm still battling is to keep reminding myself that it's the lack of the drug thats making me feel this way and it will be temporary.
Well...with that said-you CAN DO THIS! Drink lots of warm liquids -tea,broth. Take double doses of a multi-vitamin. If you have any tranquilzers on hand that will help you to get some sleep at night-nights are the worst. If you don't have a script for them try valerian root. Hot baths will help your aching legs and joints. Keep busy-as hard as that will be it really keeps your mind off the discomfort. Try to take a walk during the day-or any exercise. I also took ht-5-to help with my depression but DO NOT take them if your on an anti-depressant! I also had an old script of a muscule relaxer that helped the aches and pains. Lots of water also will help to flush out your system. Read a good book or watch a silly movie-helps to take your mind off your misery.
The best thing that you can do for yourself is have a support system in place! People that know what your going through and will help and encourage you-it also is great if they will give a shoulder to cry on!
There are lots of people here who can help you and give much more advice. This will be a slow process but very much worth it in the end. You will have ok days and awful days! Good hours and terrable hours.
