Welcome shayeagle. I just recovered this week from my opiate dependency and I have to tell you that it is something you need to make a goal to do. I feel so much better and I have so much more energy it's unbelievable.

I can't speak about taking Suboxone, but I did my research before hand on the drug and I personally did not want to take it. It is an opiate replacement and is just as hard to get off of from the stories that I have read here in this forum.

What worked for me was a positive attitude that I would get off opiates and tapering down. Going from 60+ mg/day of oxycodone down to 10 mg/day was fairly easy, getting below 5 mg/day was extremely hard and I had lots of withdrawals. I was ready to check into a 5-day detox program, but because of an insurance glitch I had to wait an extra 2 days. I decided to just go cold turkey at that point and I took some Valium to take the edge off at night (when my withdrawals were the worst) and 3 days later I was 99% withdrawal free. I'm day 6 now and I'm completely drug-free!!

You can do it. It is a mind over matter thing, where you have to decide that a life w/o drugs is worth it. I still crave from time-to-time and I will probably for the rest of my life, but I will never go back! Life is too precious and beautiful than to have a veil of drugs covering your eyes and emotions. I can plan to do things now w/o having to count to see how many Percocets I have left in the bottle.

Let us know how things go and we're all here to help, especially in desperate times. This group is wonderful!!
