Addison's Disease Message Board

Addison's Disease Board Index

Aug 8, 2016

I was diagnosed with Addison's about a year ago and was promptly started on hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone. I've seen some improvements since the diagnosis, most noticeably my appetite improved and I put some weight back on, and I no longer feel dizzy when I stand up. But my energy hasn't rebounded as much as I was told it would, same with my mood.

Recent appt with a new endo, she tested my DHEA, which was low: 77 ug/dL (160 - 449 ug/dL). So she had me start taking 100mg daily of DHEA supplement.

Two questions:

- Has anyone taken DHEA for their Addison's? Have you felt any improvements with it? If so, how long did it take to "kick in"?

- My endo said you can get DHEA over the counter. I picked some up, but I'm wondering if there are certain brands to use/avoid.

I'm male, in my thirties. I'm on day four of taking the DHEA. I'm hopeful this is the last piece to the puzzle because I want my old self back. Thanks for your help!

I take it but don't notice much of a difference.

DHEA was the last piece of the puzzle for me. I've been on 25mg of DHEA once daily in addition to the hydrocort and fludrocort, and it has made an incredible difference for me with my mood and helped slightly with my energy.

It took quite a while to see any noticeable affects. Hang in there.
