Addison's Disease Message Board

Addison's Disease Board Index

Hi, All!

I am a 25 year old female and have been suffering with worsening symptoms for over a year now. Doctors have been puzzled by my symptoms and "normal" test results. A few family members and doctors have suggested that I may have Addison's Disease.

To prevent myself from writing a small novel here, I will just give a brief synopsis of symptoms. There are many more, but my main symptoms are: chronic nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss (45 lbs. in 6 months, I am 5'91/2" and weigh 110 lbs.) dizziness, blackouts when standing up, heart palpitations and nausea with activity (even just when walking short distances), fatigue, constipation, diarrhea, pain on the left side of my pelvis (front and back), brain fog, inability to concentrate, irritability, bipolar-like emotions, weakness, scars that have turned brown, migraine headaches, low blood pressure (80/50).

Doctors have suggested everything from anxiety, stress-induced eating disorder, IBS, and gluten intolerance. I had bloodwork done for Celiac Disease. I have a mildly positive blood test for Celiac, but the test was not specific for Celiac. Other auto immune diseases can elevate the test. I had stool tests done for gluten, casein, yeast, and egg intolerances and all came back positive. I have no intestinal damage that I know of. A malapsorption test came back normal as well as bloodwork testing my potassium, sodium, and other levels.

I thought my problem was gluten sensitivity, but after 2 months on a strict diet that is gluten, dairy, yeast, and egg free, I feel worse. I was recently hospitalized for "dehydration", low blood pressure with a high pulse that remains low while standing, and pulse that changes rapidly between 75 and over 100. The ER released me after a day saying they couldn't help me.

I am seeing an endocrinologist at the end of September for my symptoms. I think my symptoms sound exactly like Addison's. I've had a cortisol blood test, but do not know the results. My problem is that I fear figuring out what is going on may be complicated.

Also, I have had 2 surgeries in the past year and my symptoms have worsened after each, as well as after tests, such as CT scans and a biopsy. I become very ill with dizziness and nausea (no vomiting) after tests especially.

Am I on the right track here? Any advice is appreciated. If anyone would like to share their stories I would love to listen as well.

Hugs.
