Addison's Disease Message Board

Addison's Disease Board Index

Hi everyone,

In my last thread I posted asking about what brand of adrenal glandulars to use, but I'm just going to go to the ER. I have continuous heart palpitations and extreme low blood pressure throughout the day, and I feel like I can't breathe because I just feel so short of breath. Someone in my last thread suggested that I just go to the ER and get treatment, and that's what I'm going to do. I can't go on any longer like this. I have to admit, I'm quite scared to go to the ER, though. What can I expect an ACTH stim test to be like? I've researched tests for Addison's pretty thoroughly, but am actually a little nervous that I'm going to react badly to the ACTH, and get even sicker. What if I have a reaction? I mean, I know I'm going to be in the hospital so I'm sure it's safe, but I just can't take one more thing, you know? Also, if they give me hydrocortisone or prednisone (I'm hoping they give me hydro before the prednisone), will I feel better immediately? Am I going to be all hyped up and anxious because of the steroids? I really have a hard time trusting doctors because for three years I've been very, very sick, and doctors have suggested that I'm probably just a hypochondriac because I have a history of childhood and pre-teen anxiety. Of course, I wasn't able to "prove" anything because my lack of insurance kept me from getting tests. It's just ridiculous- I'm like 110lbs. and 5'5" with strangely tan skin among other major adrenal insufficiency symptoms. Anyway, can anyone tell me what to expect in the ER, because I am a little nervous. Thanks so much,
Katalina
