Addison's Disease Message Board

Addison's Disease Board Index

I finally have a diagnosis of Addison's. The dr put me on 2.5mg of prednisone two times a day and I'll start taking it on Wednesday. How long after I start the meds will I begin to feel better?

A few months ago I was given a shot of Kenelog. After 24 hours I felt "fine" and within 2 days I felt great for the first time in decades. Will the prednisone kick in that fast?
You should have more of the prednisone in the morning than in the second dose. When using prednisone I took 4mgs a.m. & 1mg about 5pm. We should have 2/3 of the daily dose by noon or 1pm.

The normal body has it's highest cortisol about 30 minutes after getting up in the morning. It takes prednisone longer to convert in the liver.

Don't know where the docs get their info?!?!?! You apparently have 5mg prednisone so they tell you to just split it. What you need is 1mg tablets to dose yourself properly. They cost a bit more.

If dosed properly you should feel immeadiate results.
Well, Wanda, I took your advice. Today was the first day of my meds. I broke one of the tablets in half and took 3.75mg prednisone in the morning. It took about an hour and a half before I started feeling better. Nothing really remarkable, but I just kept going all day. Usually I get about two or three errands done, then *I'm* done for the day. I was able to get my entire list done, then come home and had the energy to make dinner and pick up the house. Doesn't sound like much, but that's light years better than I've been doing in years.

I took my second dose (1.75) this evening and did get a "boost". It's not a rush or energy. I just think about doing something and suddenly I find myself doing it. Little things. Folding some laundry, picking up the floor.

I'm not ready to jump up and scream "This is perfect!", but there is a marked improvement.

Thank you so much for your advice. Now, if the muscle spasms and heart thumping would stay away, I'd be happy. So far, so good today!:) :)
