Has anyone gotten diabetes after taking cortisol? thanks.
Cortisol directly controls blood sugar by stimulating the liver to release sugar into the blood. Many people find it becomes a problem and there is a web site from Britain devoted to just this topic.
I already had diabetes when they discovered my hypopituitarism (and hence secondary Addison's Disease). Until we got the dosage of Cortef just right, my blood sugars were pretty out of control, but I had been crashing (low) before they diagnosed me. (Low blood sugar is one of the symptoms of adrenal insufficiency.) I am under good control now, but it took awhile to get everything regulated.
