Addison's Disease Message Board

Addison's Disease Board Index

I apologize for the long post, Please let me know what you think..

Ok, here is my dilemma. I have had symptoms for about 13 years. I first developed symptoms of anxiety and tingling in my hands and feet. I went to the GP and he did an MRI thinking I had MS. MRI came back fine. Then my doctor left the office and I was switched to another GP. He did the same usual blood work that they perform on an annual and decided to do another MRI of my brain, Everything was fine, then we did spine and back. Everything kept coming back normal. I was referred to a neurologist to test my nerve endings all came back fine. I was also tested for lymes disease came back negative. All thyroid levels are fine too.

So here is what I do know. As the years progressed so did my symptoms. In the past 5-6 years I developed brain fog, thinning hair, problems with recall, extreme fatigue, and all over achiness especially in my legs and feet.

I was sent to a rheumatologist who treated me with snriís like effexor and cymbalta for fibromyalgia even though I did not have all the pressure points. Cymbalta helped me with my anxiety and helped a little with the pain but not the fatigue. In addition to that, I became depressed. So I wanted to dig deeper.

I started reading about adrenal fatigue and thought I could fit into this area. My extreme fatigue comes after only five hours of sitting at a computer at work or a few hours of reading. This fatigue is debilitating I have to lay down not move and not talk because it takes too much energy to do so. I actually feel like I am dying. After resting for about an hour I start to regain my energy, but I have to take it easy. I also am tired after exercise, especially if I exercise in the morning I then ruin my whole day. In addition, I also almost always getting tired around 3:00 or 4:00. I have also developed allergies to pistachios, barely, and corn. There is also now a nodule on my thyroid gland (TH levels still are fine).

So I saw an endocrinologist, he tested my cortisol level told me to get it close to 8 am as possible. Went to my GPs they made me wait until 9am before drawing my blood, a.m. level came as a 6. Endocrinologist told me to do the test again, this time went to Labcorp test came back as 13.8 at 7:45 (I was really rushed that morning as I could not find my car keys, left them in my friendís car). After calling the office have not heard from my endo again. And also ATCH levels came back fine.

I then took the initiative on myself and ordered another cortisol test. This time my cortisol was 9.6 at 8 am. I also ordered DHEA-s, Estradiol, Progesterone, and Testosterone Free. I will have those results on Monday.

So, I currently have a bad case of the flu (despite having the flu shot) and ended up having to go to the hospital yesterday fever 103.2 would not go away. I was very dehydrated despite my constant fluid intake. I felt like I needed to drink all the time (I blame the fever for that). It was there where I found out that my potassium was slightly low. Also, after 2 liters of IV fluid replacement, they did the a standing blood pressure test, it went from 102 to 112. I thought this was good because what I have read about Addisons is that blood pressure would not rise like that.

However, I have never seen my blood pressure so high, itís usually in the low 90ís upper 80ís. I have no Idea what my blood pressure was when I came in. My blood also showed I had an infection so they gave be an antibiotic, she said it could be respiratory (even though I am breathing fine).

One last thing, I am also slightly vitamin D deficient. I have been given mega doses of D with no luck in raising its levels.

Ok so here are my questions, Does my coritisol levels and symptoms indicate the possibility of adrenal fatigue? Or what else does this sound like? Also, what role does potassium play in all of this? Was it lowered because of the flu?
Any help would be wonderful!!
Thank you.
