Addison's Disease Message Board

Addison's Disease Board Index

Just scheduled an ACTH stim test for tomorrow and I'm concerned because this is my 2nd test and I want to make sure it's done right. My internist did this test a few years ago but he didn't do a baseline draw so the test was pointless. Fast forward years later, my health has severely deteriorated and based on more abnormal cortisol levels my endocrinologist is going to do another. I love my dr., she is wonderful and I'm not doctor but I've read a lot about this test and never heard of this.- I asked the hospital nurse that I spoke with today how many blood draws they were doing and she said they were going to do a baseline (thank god!), give an injection, wait an hour, give another acth injection and then do a blood draw.
Please someone tell me this result will be ok.
I've been suffering the fatigue, muscle pain, weakness, fainting, low bp, foggy head and other typical symptoms but I also have high blood sugar, which isn't typical of Addison's. The internist hack put me on 30 mg of hydrocortisone because of the chronically low cortisol and I brought myself down to about 15 mg, 10 @ 8 am, 5 @ 12 pm. It really didn't seem to help my syptoms much and I've been off it for over a year.
I just want to know why I'm sick and I don't want to rule out something erroneously.
TIA
