... You should take your largest dose of Cortef first thing in the morning. So, I would say, take 10 mg. first thing, 5 at noonish, and 5 at 4 or 5 p.m. I'm surprised your doctor didn't recommend this. ... (11 replies)

... 5mg prednisone would be a min replacement dose for addisons/adrenal insufficiency. 7.5mg is the max dose. Taking that much for over 4 weeks would tell your adrenals they don't have to work. ... Take it slow. There are a couple of methods. One is the direct down, the other the alternating down. Direct down is to just simply reduce your dose by 2.5mg for say, 3-5 days, and if tolerated, then continue to reduce by 2.5 increments until you are where you need to be. Write down what events you missed, how you felt during the ones you did attend and how your life is being affected. I'm at 17.5mg right now, and my doctor says recent studies show that we make around 15mg when we are healthy and only take 20-25 when sick, and that 25-30mg is too much for anybody on a normal basis.
