... Jennifer, You could try Hydrocortisone. It is like most like normal cortisol. I much prefer it over Cortef. It is not a good idea to switch from 10mg to 30mg. This is probably why you are having problems. Best to take the same amount daily. Are you splitting your dose? No need to be afraid of prednisone. If you don't take more than you should there should be no... (7 replies)
... them 5 mg they wouldnt feel anything. I havent been on any medication for 6 years, l was taking a very low dose of synthroid for about 1 year but got off. If the cortef made all my symptoms increase that would tell me that something isnt right with my adrenal glands, but not sure what? ... (5 replies)
... ods daily, his adrenials shut down, He was so sick for about 9 month's, in and out of the hospital about everyother week, getting I.V.'s. ... Hi Binks, You mentioned being on hydrocortisone for several years. Who has told you your adrenals are still working??? My guess is they are atrophied by now. Are you producing aldosterone? It is good that you can recognize feeling better on cortef. I take prednisone during the summer months & hydrocortisone in the winter. Actually on a combo now taking 5mg HC... (3 replies)

... Hi Softcrush, I have seen you on the thyroid board also. I had my cortisol and dhea drawn with a regular doc and was told they were normal. I thought the dhea was kind of low 93 (35-450). Anyway, ditched him and have been seeing a naturopathic doctor. She did the salivary adrenal test and my cortisol was low (not low enough to be on cortef), dhea was low and salivary... (4 replies)
... This all is SO confusing. I have been dx'd with adrenal "burnout" or adrenal failure as my doc calls it. He says I don't have Addison's because I don't have adrenal antibodies. Dr. says it's pituitary related. Others with adrenal insufficiency have said their dose of 10-12 hydrocortison is way too low. I'm on 37.5 or cortisone acetate (equal to 25 <0r 30?> Cortef) and... ... HI, I would agree with Wanda about this. Metapyrone testing is essentially outdated because of much safer and easier alternative testing that likely offer just as or more accurate results. Metapyrone testing can put you at risk of adrenal crisis-so you definitely need to be supervised by medical professionals during the test. It doesn't sound like they have planned that... (2 replies)

... James, I am wondering why you have decided to take organic cow adrenal cortex. I know we do everything we can to regain our lost energy, but would be leery of this. Have you been tested for the need for Florinef? Have you tried Hydrocortisone? I do do not do well on Cortef. I am currently taking 5mg prednisone, 1mg about 5am, 2mg about 7am, 1mg about noon & 1mg at 5pm. ... (15 replies)
