... Hi Bicycler, I was just getting ready to run when I thought I'd check the Board! I take cortef too. My Doc told me about 7 years ago that it was better for me. I was on Prednisone forever before that-nobody said anything until I changed Doc's. I'm doing a 10/10/5 dosage and the Florinef with it. Although I'm not sure I need it. I've got borderline high blood pressure which is... (4 replies)
... I used to run every morning 2 to 5 miles, 6 days a weeks until hurting my knee coaching son's soccer team. Biking makes my knees feel so much better. I try to ride 3 to 4 times a weeks, 15 +, usually on weekends min of 20, my longest this summer was 36. I'd like to ride more often and longer distance, but like everyone else, have other demands on my time. I travel 2 to 3... (4 replies)

... Thanks for your response and your right about what you said. I have a new appt with a new endo next Friday. I will do what I have to do to try to get to feeling better. My pressures are so low and I am so tired. I had my cortisol levels done in July (24 hr urine) and I was less that 1mcg and the norm was 5mg not mcg. So im taking all my previous lab results to the new endo and... (2 replies)
... Thank you so much for your response. The last month has been pure hell, and I am still taking my prednisone and my pressures are just going lower and I have no energy at all. ... (8 replies)
... Missy, your doc is trying to get your adrenals to "kick in" so you don't end up with permanent addisons. Reducing you steriods sucks but you need to try it. Also, don't go up and down on prednisone. It doesn't work that way. Cortef or hydrocort does but not pred. That in itself can cause you to feel like crap constantly. Get on a dosage and slowly over a period of a month (or... (2 replies)
... I have every confidence you will be feeling well soon and keeping up with your little ones. I do not have a doctor recommendation. I live in Madison Wi and have not met one doctor who has experience with Addisions. Here is what I have found helpful. 1. Hydrocortisone is preferred by many of us to prednisone. I would check into that. 2. If you switch to hydrocortisone... (3 replies)
... I was released from the hospital this a.m. w/ my prescriptions and no guidance. I have a great Internal Medicine Doctor who is working on tapering my dose, but is quite upset that they sent me home w/ a 50 mg RX for Prednisone. I have an appointment with her tomorrow at 1:45 p.m. and labwork of course. I am looking for a specialist at U of M Medical Center and would be willing... (3 replies)

... Thank you so much for your response :) Its so crazy and I am sitting here in amazement where I feel like I lost 3 months banking on this DR. I feel like I am back at square one. I am researching somewhere maybe in San Antonio or Houston TX area. If anyone knows of some DR in those areas, can you please respond to this post? Your right, it is worth the 2 to 4 hr drive. I... ... We could be twins! I had many of the symptoms you desribed before I was diagnosed with Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency. I do not Addison's Disease - my adrenal glands work fine - however, my pituitary gland was damaged when I lost a significant amount of blood after my last c-section (I have had 3). The technical term for my "disease" is Sheehan's Syndrome. I also have... (10 replies)
... I believe that normal replacement values (what the body needs with no adrenal function) is 7 mg prednisone, or 30 mg hydrocortisone, daily. but everyone is different, some need more some need less, must listen to your body. (6 replies)

... Thanks Suzie for your reply. You know that is my fear, that this endo is not going to know much bout addisons or secondary adrenal insufficiency. I have been on prednisone and your right, I have been on all sorts of doses and it doesnt seem to help out at all. I have been on my own since this nightmare started in Nov of 08. ... (7 replies)
... I was first started on predinose too and didn't do well on it at all, and ended up in crisis and almost dead in the ER... I would suggest you start taking hydrocortisone instead, which is bio-identical, meaning your body doesn't have to convert it like it does prednisone. It also helps with low BP, but if it doesn't help enough you need to get on fludrocortisone (Florinef)... (7 replies)
... I got as low as 79 pounds. Then when they found I had addisons I went all the way up to 145 pounds, then they switched me on prednisone and I was 120 and stayed there for years. Then I had a baby, and I'm 130 and I've had a really hard time losing the baby weight. ... (4 replies)
