... i started out on prednisone and florinef but after 6 months i switched to hydrocortisone by itself and i feel MUCH better on the hydrocortisone (also called cortef). i highly recommend making the switch. I have more level energy and moods now, less water retention, more even weight gain, and better sleep. the only disadvantage to it is that you have to take it more than once... (16 replies)
... s got crazy... I went into adrenal crisis before I was diagnosed. Guess that's the problem with being too stubborn to go to the doctor! I have been prescribed Prednisone and Fludrocortisone. Also Protonix for stomach acid. ... (16 replies)

... Well... HC does contain tiny amounts of minercortosteroids but it is very tiny. Hydrocortisone is the steroid most like what the body makes. How do you take your HC? I would first spread your doses out from twice a day to three times a day before I would change to a long acting steroid. While a long acting steroid such as prednisone, which is the next step usually,... (6 replies)
Florinef dosages
Apr 20, 2008
... Could anyone else give me an idea of which tests their doctors use to check Florinef dosages? (7 replies)
... It all depends. Depends on your body, if you have other diseases that need to be treated by steroids, if you are heavy, if you are resistent to steroids... there are a lot of factors that go into how much and which steroid to take. All I can say is that too much steroid will damage the body long term and you may or may not notice it until the damage is done as it will be... (14 replies)
... Whoa! Be careful going cold turkey like that! You have some in your system but it may not be enough to keep you going. You can get yourself sick so make sure that you are monitoring yourself and take a little if you need it so you don't end up in crisis mode! You should lose the weight gradually. Some of it may be water weight and come off quickly but it may take a while... (14 replies)

... My endo dr. just blames me for gaining the weight, saying that what I take for steriods is a 'very normal dose'. Are other types of steroids like prednisone or hydrocortisone any better or worse? ... (14 replies)
... 7mg? Wow... usually you run into people with too high a replacement dose but um, that would make you pretty under replaced if you are full out addison's. Most take 15-20, on the high side up to 30 which is over replaced according to my doctors. I take 22.5 only to suppress my ACTH and I have no adrenals. What were your test results and why do they only give you 7mg - are... (4 replies)

... Dear Bugsmom, Is your doctor an endocrinologist? 80 mg of hydrocortisone is a LOT. A normal dosage of hydrocortisone (Cortef) is 20 mg. Please go to and look for the normal cortisol levels daily. the numbers you quoted look too low. A morning cortisol should be somewhere around 15-25 (don't quote me on this - I haven't checked in a while) I have had... (29 replies)
... Ah yes, the good ol' denial. When I ask my doc about the side effects of steroids, they will say a "temporary rise in blood sugar" and I want to rip their eyes out. If she sadly happened to be predisposed to an issue, then the steroids once can cause Cushing's to be aggravated. In any event, the docs should not scoff but test. Persist and get testing. I am now testing... (10 replies)
