... I had that extreme coldness before I was put on prednisone and florinef. I would lie on the couch with piles of blankets, and my feet would still be cold to the touch. ... (4 replies)

... I have never shown to be low on cortisol, although I am low on aldosterone. I had symptoms of having too much prednisone once I started taking it, so I am on a low dose but take a normal dose of Fluorinef. Did anybody else out there start with just being low on aldosterone? ... (35 replies)
... tally I mis spoke I take 25 mg of cortef in the am and 15 at 4 pm. I took cortisone acetate for the first 24 years. Then because of production problems I took prednisone and several other steriods. I went to a new endo because of brain fog, muscle and joint pain. He switched me to Cortef and put me on thyroid meds too. ... (35 replies)
... Ah prednisone. While your 5mg is about 25mg of hydrocortosone, it is a long acting steroid and tends to have more side effects than HC because it does not give the body a break and give it the down time that the body normally has. A normal body has its highest cortisol reading in the morning, half that in the late afternoon and near zero at midnight - the pred will keep you... (6 replies)

... I am sorry to hear that you are in menopause. Er, I had a hyst (total) so I deal with that too. I am sorry to say that I take more medications than you. I am panhypopituitary so I have to replace all my hormones. I also take florinef. Night is fine for that - I used to do that. I take a couple of thyroid meds, estrogen, testosterone, a couple of pain meds, florinef, salt,... (19 replies)
... Salt tablets are something you can buy although sometimes it takes some searching to get the non-buffered ones. Some local pharmacies may surprise you... I don't think the tablets replace florinef entirely. Sodium is essential for function and so is aldosterone but they work together so sodium is not dumped if I have this correctly. So without the other, you would need to... (5 replies)
... thanks for the advice! I have always been thin, a non-smoker, and fairly athletic. plus my parents both have very low blood pressure. so i'm not concerned, because 90/60 is what my bp was before addison's. can salt tablets effectively replace florinef in some cases? is that just something you buy over the counter? (5 replies)
... Are you in super duper physical condition? Because that is pretty low for a normal person. I would keep an eye on your BP (and pulse) and keep salt tablets handy to raise your BP if needed. Once you get testing, perhaps he will find that you need a small amount. (5 replies)
... Thank you! So it is basically mandatory that i take my blood pressure *at least* once a day if i don't take florinef? my BP has pretty much been constant at 90/60 which is what it always was before i started having Addison's symptoms. i have not had any symptoms of hypotension since stopping the florinef (although i do kind of remember that i just don't make any aldosterone) (5 replies)
... Cortef contains oh gosh about .0003% of the same active ingredient as in florinef - that is, trace amount. That being said, if your blood pressure is normal, your salt management ok, and you have been tested for renin and aldosterone and you don't need to bring the levels down or up, then perhaps you *can* forgoe the florinef. However, most addisonian people do much... (5 replies)

... I've heard of people developing acne when they start to take prednisone or cortef, but what about other skin changes? ... (6 replies)
... Adrenal glands and the cortisol they produce are very important. Without cortisol, the body cannot maintain proper blood pressure during times of stress as well as have proper body metabolism. I know cortisol is pretty distorted on the diet commercials but that is when you have too much and that is also too bad (I had that - Cushing's disease) and too little is bad as well and... ... PLEASE KNOW I CARE. I am so sorry for what your daughter is going through. I have suffered with crazy endocrine problems and all the meds and their side effects for years. At this time I no longer have a pituitary gland. There are two things of which I want to make you aware. The first is that there is a condition known as Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia (MEN). There are... (5 replies)
