Here's a little test. When I would have an allergy attack, I could cover my nose and mouth with a thick paper towel for about 20 minutes and it would go away (until I took it off of course!). That's only if there was nothing else going on with it like infection.
When I have a cold, I first feel really exhausted before I get really into the fun symptoms. Then it's the runny nose, cough, aches. And for me, it always turns into a sinus infection. Then I feel blocked up, my sinuses hurt(feels like my eyes are going to pop out of my head) and I get green mucus and a funny smell in my nose. Since one runs right into the other, it's easy to get the symptoms confused and to not treat a sinus infection because you think it's just a cold and will go away by itself. Sounds like maybe you got a cold that turned into a sinus infection? I just did this two weeks ago myself. You feeling better?
Is this a reoccuring thing for you? If it is, you'll eventually learn when you need an antibiotic or not and what kind of meds. Now I pretty much tell my doctor wether I need one or not. I always do when it turns into a sinus infection, but I can't remember the last time I took one for anything else. And as for fever..know yourself(and wait 10 minutes after eating or drinking anything to take your temp)! 99 for me is not normal. Other people may be different.
By the way, if it hangs on for weeks, it's even more likely it's a sinus infection. A simple cold supposedly lasts for 7-10 days.
