Wow - it is amazing to find someone else with this problem with perfumes. I must say that what I do is tell people I am allergic to perfume - while that might not be the strict definition of my reaction, it does help in that if visitors know ahead of time they don't wear perfume the same (obviously it is usually so ingrained in their clothes that they still smell a bit, but not so bad, and when it isn't "fresh" it seems less likely to rub off on things in our home). Visitors who are staying are encouraged to use my shampoo etc.

My latest dilemma is that my girls just pulled a teddy bear out of their old toy box and it STILL smells strongly of a horrible perfume (a babysitter cuddled it). It has been in there for over 6mths.... I have now hung it on the washing line to floods of tears (they are only nearly 2) but have washed it many times and not sure what to do to get the smell out!
