Uticaria x 2?
Feb 27, 2001
... My chronic uticaria started in August/September of 2000. Long story short: I've been off and on Zantac, Zyrtec and Prednisone. I've had several severe attacks (eyes swelled shut). I went on a STRICT diet. For about a month, I ate NOTHING except eggs, plain pasta, baked potatoes, plain tuna, spinach and OJ...and the attacks stopped! I stopped taking pills (doc's advice)... ... without being covered in hives. If you try this, please let me know if you have success. There doesn't seem to be ANYONE looking for a cure for us sufferers of uticaria and it's frustrating. No doctor has even told me that vit. c is a natural blocker of histimes. I had to find it online! ... (2 replies)

Facial Swelling
Mar 19, 2001
... Bingo! I've had Uticaria (or Urticaria?...I've seen it spelled both ways) since August 2000. It sucks...but is rarely life threatening. I'm currently on Zyrtec and Zantac (H1 and H2 blockers). I still have no clue what I'm allergic to...although I suspect its dairy. Anyway...QQ...I suggest starting you father on an elimination diet. This is basically a diet of "safe"... (8 replies)
... When I first experienced severe uticaria, my Dr. gave me Zyrtec. Well, I didn't want to have to take it every day for the rest of my life. After much trial and error, I discovered I had developed intolerances to citric acid, yeast, soy and nightshade veggies....white potatoes, eggplant, all colors of peppers, and soy. By eliminating these foods from my diet I became... (148 replies)

Uticaria x 2?
Mar 27, 2001
... I can't believe this! I have the same problem with the "hives", (they have been called "Pressure Uticaria", Angioedema as well). My lip will blow up, eyelids, numerous joints, instep, as well as hives running along a scratch line(I can write on myself in "hives"), almost all is deep tissue swelling, and leaves some pretty ugly bruises. Anyway, all the tests, and all the... (7 replies)

... I thought since no one else has I'd chime-in here. I take similar meds for chronic hives-- Zyrtec & Singulair. I also get a Epinephrine shot at my dermatologist's office once or twice a year when the pills don't seem to be working. All my symptoms are gone the following day. But the pills usually work. I take 1 Zyrtec alone every day. I take 1 Singulair if the hives... (1 replies)

Hives and coughing
Oct 23, 2009
... There are very many things that can cause hives. Of course there are the allergies, to foods, environment, medications, etc. The cough can be related to the hives or simply a coincidence. Is there something new in the house that your child is being exposed to? a detergent? body soap? shampoo? a new juice? it can be anything. My son on several occasions has broken out into... ... I second the guess that you probably ate something you're allergic to (or ate something that's been cross-contaminated by something you're allergic to.) Two other thoughts. You could have developed an allergy to NSAIDs. This happened to my coworker at the age of 40! Since avoiding all NSAIDs, he's had no more hives. The last thought is that you could have developed... ... No hair dye - that is just not an option!! My hives are due to stress, which throws my thyroid (I have Hashi's) and hormones out of wack. I am trying to not get caught up in the additional stress that breaking out in hives causes. I'm trying to "meditate" each day and tell myself that it soon will pass. It's really difficult, as you know. Try to keep busy - it helps to... (2 replies)
