Re: ALS Scare

Hello Chrissy,

You can ask your doctor for the results of your clinical exam, in particular the examination of your reflexes.

Did you notice any fasciculations or muscle cramping since your symptoms began?

The nerve test typically consists of an NCV and EMG. The NCV tests the sensory nerves. Sensory nerves have nothing to do w ALS. Typically the test is used to diagnose various neuropathies. The EMG (where they poke you with needles) is the one that is used to look for possible motor neuron disease as well as a myriad of other conditions.

Typically the EMG is done by the neurologist and the NCV done by a technician.

There are many conditions that can cause your symptoms including various myopathies.

Wishing for the most positive outcome.
