I have been having extreme pain in the muscles of my forearms (front and back) for 5 weeks. The pain is more severe at times and feels like cramping and spasms. Now, for the past few weeks I have been having an aweful sore throat which gets worse when I talk and eat. It's really hard to swallow although I seem to be able to get the food down and there is no drooling or speech problems. I had nerve conduction and EMG tests w/ neuro. Both were normal. Blood work was normal. I do not have strep or other bacterial infection but the throat seems to keep getting worse. I have some fasic's (a few different locations per day).

The question is: It seems as though my main symptom is pain and not loss of functionality. Have you ever heard of a case of als which started with pain instead of weakness?

I am driving myself up a wall with anxiety thinking I have als or some other serious disease. The fact it happened to show up in the arms/hands and throat set off my als alarm. Any help will be greatly appreciated. God Bless.
