Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Message Board

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Board Index

Hello Everyone!

I am experiencing some symptoms that I am still trying to find out what is causing them. I thought I would post on this board & hear from those who know more about this disease. First of all I have been experiencing major muscle twitching & muscle jerking. This is a constant ongoing issue. The twitching & jerking happens everyday. I have hundreds of twitches a day throughout my body. These twitches can occur anywhere from my head, face, eyelids, lips, tongue, neck, chest, stomach, arms, hands, fingers, butt, thighs, calves, feet, toes, etc. Right now my left knee is a major issue. My left knee keeps twitching. The twitching can last for many hours & is visible to the eye. Sometimes I'll get a few hours break, but for the most part it’s a constant thing. The twitching in my left knee has been bugging me for 3 weeks now. My muscle jerking usually occurs in my fingers, hands, arms, legs & feet. This usually is really noticeable when I am relaxing especially when trying to sleep. I'm only 24 years old & these problems that I’m having are not normal in the least bit. I also have many other symptoms that could be related. I have had dizziness, especially when I go to stand up from a sitting or lying down position. Just recently I had an experience with dizziness during a 15 minute cardio workout. I got really dizzy during my workout & had to take a break for a few minutes. After my workout I had a terrible headache. I'm not exactly sure if the dizziness & headaches are related to my muscle twitching & jerking, but I thought I would mention it. Headaches are a major issue as well. It seems I have a constant headache. I can go a few hours without a headache, but for the most part it's an everyday thing that is driving me crazy. I also have occasions of slurred & stuttering in my speech.

Things seem to be getting worse with no signs of improvement. I would have to say with in the last 4-6 months it has gotten worse. I really noticed the twitching & jerking about a year ago, but I do remember having minor issues with the twitching for longer. I have done countless researches on my symptoms on the internet & ALS seems to be coming up as a possibility. I wanted to hear from anyone on this board to see if my symptoms match those of ALS. I appreciate any replies. Thank you!!! ;)
