Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Message Board

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Board Index

Hi Jeff. I am glad you have found out what is wrong. So many doctors tell people that Lyme does not exist somewhere when it is in every state. It is the second fastest growing infectious disease in the US after AIDS.

Did you see the post at http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=464503

What dose of Doxy are you taking? It is very important to see a knowledgeable doctor and be tested for all co-infections. It is estimated that 60% of people who have Lyme are co-infected. As someone who has had several, I know firsthand how important it is to know if they are present. Having them may affect treatment choice and progress.

Are you familiar with the Jarisch-Herxheimer Reaction (herx)? Often, when people who have Lyme take antibiotics, their symptoms get worse or they get new ones. When the antibiotics kill the bacteria, toxins are released making them feel sicker. It can be very scary, but it is a good sign the antibiotics are working. Although it can vary individually, many people experience this reaction in the beginning or change of treatment and every three to four weeks. Over time, they should lessen in severity.

If you would like a doctor recommendation, let me know. The Lyme board on this site is also great.
