... it really just depends on the person my mom had it probably for about 6 mos to a year before she was dx in April 04 and she passed in Feb 05. She went really fast but the majority of people live anywhere from 2-15 years. Just depends on which part of the body it effects the most. My moms diaphram was effected quickly. I hope this helps! ... YOU REALLY ARE IN A STRANGE SITUATION. I HAVE KNOWN TWO PEOPLE WITH ALS. YES, THE ILLNESS DOES PROGRESS RAPIDLY. AND A TEN YEAR OLD IS VERY AWARE OF CHANGES IN THEIR PARENTS. YOUR EX MAY BE IN DENIAL, ESPECIALLY IF HE WAS JUST DIAGNOSED. ... (4 replies)
