This is my first posting and I thought I'd share my story. I've been lurking on this board for months reading everyone else's story as a source of hope.

I've been tired for years and have had countless labs done always coming back normal. My iron and CBC always tested normal. Finally in February 2016, someone had the thought to check my ferritin which came in at 7. I supplemented with iron pills for a few months and got my ferritin up to 50 by July. I did start feeling somewhat better by then and many of my low ferritin related symptoms had ceased. No more headaches, hair stopped falling out, no more rapid heartbeat or shortness of breath, and the brain fog lifted a bit. I did start having digestive issues, though, so I stopped the iron for a while. By December 2016 I was back to heart palpitations, constant brain fog, hair loss and shortness of breath. CBC/hemo totally healthy, but ferritin back down to 18. In January 2017 I did a series of 5 Venofer infusions over the course of 3 weeks. It's now been 7 weeks since my last infusion. Ferritin is up to a whopping 186 now! Unfortunately, I haven't seen the vast improvements others have. I know everyone is different, and maybe my body just needs more time. My hair loss seems to have slowed again, my heart palpitations and shortness of breath have improved again, but I still battle dizziness, blurred vision, and brain fog on a near daily basis. I'm becoming so depressed.

My low ferritin seems to be from heavy periods and a vegetarian diet that I gave up 18 months ago already (I went vegetarian in the first place to see if it would help my bad acne and constant fatigue since I was told iron wasn't my issue at that time). I started on birth control pills again after a 4 year hiatus to control the periods. Thyroid (full panel, not just TSH), B12, and all the other usual suspects test normal.

I started walking again on a daily basis a month ago to get the blood moving, so this is a good thing. I had stopped walking last November when I started feeling so awful again.

Did anyone else out there struggle with brain fog? Did anyone else just need some extra time for the infusions to kick in? I can't fully describe how this has impacted my life in such a negative way and am just digging for any hope.
It's been five weeks since my infusions and I'm just now reaching a somewhat normal status, but I can tell it'll still be a few more before things are actually normal. I've felt very slow progress, but important progress nonetheless. After my c section in November, I continued to feel awful and discovered in February that my ferritin was 27. I had two infusions of Feraheme. Over the following weeks I gradually got less palpitations, less shortness of breath, less whooshing in my ears, etc. I was really bad off. Anyway, I still don't feel like my old self, but I can finally walk through a store and a quick walk on the treadmill without feeling like I'll faint. I guess I just wanted to jump in and say your system was oxygen deprived and it takes time for the iron to help everything normalize. I was told it could take 6-8 weeks for a recovery. I don't have my test results in front of me but at my appt last week, my ferritin was 300 something. It'll even out in time, but just needs time to work. I notice improvements every day. Hope you start to feel better soon!
