Tomorrow i'm scheduled for an afternoon surgery to remove a kidney stone. The surgery is supposed to be non-invasive and have little or no blood involved from me, other than urinating blood afterwards.

However, I had my CBC done today and it shows that my blood level is 8.9 and the hospital called and said they usually like the blood level to be around 12 before doing any surgeries. In October, my blood level was 8.4, so it is slowly improving.

I am supposed to take iron pills 2 times a day, but they made me constipated and so i stopped taking them. i know, stupid of me, but i didn't know what else to do. I thought since the reason for my blood was irregular periods and i'm on the pill, i thought that would solve my problem. i guess not.

so my question, even though the surgery is non invasive and will require very little or no blood out of my body, will the postpone the surgery until my blood level is up or do you think the surgery will still happen since blood won't really be an issue regarding the surgery?

IT is possible that you can advocate for the surgery in that a kidney stone that is causing any bleeding to occur now, would be stopped by the surgery therefore allowing your hemoglobin to go up. I am sure that the hospital ( a general reference) is not aware of the particulars of your surgery and are simply covering their legal issues regarding general surgery policy. Make sure you approach this subject with your personal physician.
