PLEASE HELP ME. I HAVE VERY LOW IRON AND I AM 28 1/2 WEEKS PREGNANT. I READ UP OM IRON AND THEY ALL SAY IT CAUSES NAUSEA AND CAN CAUSE VOMITING. WHAT KIND OF IRON SHOULD I LOOK FOR TO TAKE THAT WON'T MAKE ME SICK, I ALREADY HAVE IBS AND GASTRITIS AND MY TUMMY IS VERY SENSITVE. I AM SCARED TO TAKE IRON DUE TO THE SIDE EFFECTS. HAS ANYONE TAKEN SOMETHING OR HEARD OF SOMETHING THAT IS VERY EASY ON THE STOMACH? PLEASE REPLY-

From what I read the most assimiable form of iron is hydrolyzed protein chelate, which is organic iron that has been processed for fast assimilation. They say that this form is non-constipating and easy on sensitive systems. If this doesn't work for you, you may try with your doctors approval Kelp tablets and folic acid. ( Your doctor probably has you on folic acid already) It apparently is safe because they did a study on women who were pregnant and unable to tolerate iron supplements. When 3 tablets of kelp were given daily, along with folic acid to 400 pregnant women, their hemoglobin rose from 65% to 83%. I know this works because it did for me.
But I caution you, since everyone is different to check with your doctor first. P.S. I know what it is like taking iron with an intestinal condition because I have crohn's disease and it didn't matter what I tried as far as iron goes, I just couldn't tolerate it.
