In case anyone is interested, I'm reporting what happened at my GI visit today.

He seemed very knowledgeable about B12 absorption problems, which made me feel I had chosen the correct specialist to investigate it. He was warm and personable, and he actually respects patients who have a working knowledge of the body and its functions. (He did tell me I 'read too much', but he said it with a twinkle in his eye and the corners of his mouth upturned ... LOL) I took copies of my last lab work, which he interpreted as showing no anemia. I pointed out that B12 anemia can be masked on blood tests if folic acid is adequate or excessive... as my levels of folic may be. He did sort of breeze by that observation. But he went on to say that he thinks my symptoms may be caused by my recently begun thyroid treatment. If my system doesn't settle down in a couple of months, he told me to come back and he'll look harder at the malabsorption side of things.
He calmed my fears enough to inspire my confidence and patience. That's a big plus; most doctors just make me angry, and I usually vow to never go back.

Just want to again thank all of you who helped answer my questions to this point. Hope it's ok to come back if the need arises.
